Beau Brummie tells the Birmingham Mail why he disappeared

In the note, Beau said he left of his own free will after ‘another dog standard performance against Cardiff City on Saturday’.

He said he had a couple of demands before he returned, including the club ‘spending some serious money on some serious players’.

And he urged fans to give paws for thought and stop moaning and start backing the team, who are third in the Championship.

He wrote: “I’d like to ask the fans to start getting behind the team because the negativity starts to rub off on the players.

“We’ve never been a really great side have we, let’s face it. So let’s all stop the moaning and get behind the team and bring the fun times back.”

The Beau Brummie character dates back to the 1960s when cartoons of a similar dog to Beau feature in club programmes.

He attends all home games and represents Blues at children’s and community events.

A spokesperson for Blues said: “All that we want to see is the safe return of Beau Brummie to St Andrew’s.”
