Limo safety meet over inport fears

SAFETY issues surrounding limousine hire will be discussed at a meeting in Birmingham after a rise in the number of imported vehicles which do not meet British standards.

West Midlands traffic commissioner Nick Jones will meet with a representative of the stretched limousine trade association and local authorities from across the country to look at ways of tackling safety.

There are major concerns that a growing number of imported vehicles do not meet British regulations.

Mr Jones said: “Traffic commissioners are responsible for regulating PSV operators and stretched limousines have proved a difficult issue both for traffic commissioners and local authorities for a number of years.

“These are substantial vehicles which can be as long as a bus and, as many of them are imported, they may not meet GB safety standards. The meeting, which is invite only, takes place at Birmingham City Football Ground on February 4.
