Funeral of Villa legend Johnny Dixon

As honorary president of the Aston Villa Former Players Association, Dixon played for the Old Stars team for more than 30 years, finally hanging up his boots aged 72.

Bill Moore, from the former players association, added: “Johnny Dixon was an inspiration through his actions, calm demeanour and gentle words of wisdom. It was a real honour to be in the same team as him.”

Dixon’s grandson, Robert, read a tribute which said: “Whenever I wanted to play football he would always come out and play. He never said no to me. That was the type of grandad he was.”
