Birmingham City's Karren Brady denies wrongdoing after re-arrest
BLUES boss Karren Brady has “vehemently denied” any wrongdoing after being re-arrested as part of a police investigation into alleged corruption in English football.
The 39-year-old club managing director was questioned by City of London Police yesterday over a further alleged offence and released on bail.
Ms Brady was first arrested last April along with the club’s co-owner David Sullivan and questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting.
It has been reported that part of the police investigation relates to tax affairs involving agent Willie McKay and former Blues players Aliou Cisse and Ferdinand Coly.
A statement released by the club said: “Birmingham City FC would like to confirm that Karren Brady has not been charged with anything and vehemently denies any wrong doing.
“The new ‘arrest’ as stated by the police relates to exactly the same two players that both David Sullivan and Karren Brady have already been arrested and questioned for and it simply confirms that the police are alleging PAYE and NI offences in relation to these two players.
“In the fullness of time we believe the public will see that no offence has been committed by anyone at BCFC.
“The club continues to assist the police with their inquiries and has answered every question put to them.”
Ms Brady could not be contacted for further comment today.
