Plan for 10,000 Longbridge site jobs unveiled
The leader of Birmingham City Council, Mike Whitby, said: "The Longbridge Area Action Plan sets out an ambitious vision for the transformation of the site in a way that will provide much needed jobs, homes and community facilities for everyone who lives there."
Mick Laverty, chief executive of Advantage West Midlands, described the plans for Longbridge as one of the most ambitious regeneration projects the region has seen, both in economic and social terms.
"Today's milestone offers the opportunity to close the MG Rover chapter and instead look forward to a new era for Longbridge, an era that that will bring new jobs, new businesses and create prosperous new communities," Mr Laverty added.
Richard Burden, the Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield, said he was very pleased that the Longbridge Area Action Plan had been approved.
Mr Burden said: "Getting approval for the overall planning framework is a vital step along the road to the regeneration of the Longbridge area, which has the potential to bring real benefits to people.
"The most important thing now is that things get cracking in practice.
"St Modwen has already done a tremendous amount of work in restoring the site ready for development and, with Advantage West Midlands, the Innovation Centre has been built on the site.
"Now we need to get going on some of the really exciting projects that can deliver a new future for this area."
