14-year-old girl dies in Moseley crash

Police and paramedics arrived to find the Jeep “wrapped around the lamppost”, which had toppled over and smashed onto the roof.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a Jeep Cherokee which had been involved in a significant collision with a lamppost.

“A teenage girl was out of the vehicle and had suffered serious multiple injuries.

“Crews immediately commenced emergency treatment on the girl at the scene before transferring her on blue lights to Selly Oak Hospital.

“Medics were on standby at hospital awaiting the arrival of the girl who was in a critical condition.

“Unfortunately despite the best efforts of ambulance crews and hospital medics nothing could be done to save the girl and she was pronounced dead at hospital.”

Another man, aged 25, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was later released.

Peter Manns, aged 64, who lives in Park Hill flats, said: “At about 1am there was lots of police and ambulances outside and they were there for a long while.

“We get a lot of accidents on this stretch of road. We hardly even look out of the window any more because they are so common.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I heard it happen. When I looked out of the window there was a lot of commotion.

“There was a girl screaming and crying as she was being put into an ambulance. I saw there was a Jeep wrapped around the lamppost which had come down. There was debris everywhere.”

Police asked witnesses or anyone with information to call 0845 113 5000.
