TWO people died in a grim weekend on the roads in the Black Country.
A 20-year-old woman from Wednesbury was pronounced dead at the scene after a car crashed into a lamppost in Great Bridge early yesterday.
There were floral tributes to a woman named Samatha at the site of the crash in Great Bridge Street today.
Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, incident support officer and a BASICS emergency doctor attended after the accident at 12.20am.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a car that had been in collision with a lamppost and had overturned on to its side.
“The driver of the vehicle, a woman, had suffered serious injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
“A man, believed to be in his 20s, was also travelling in the car when the incident happened.
“Crews treated him on scene for minor injuries before being conveyed to Sandwell District General Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
One tribute at the scene read: “Died tragically, always remembered. Love ya loads Sam. Mom, Dad and Daniel RIP xxx.”
Another said: “Dear Samantha, we loved you with all our hearts. You have left a void never to be filled again. Losing you, our sweet, happy, beautiful, caring, loving girl, breaks us. Love you always, from Auntie Tich, Dan, Jo, Ash, Zoe and Jordan xxx.”
The accident happened hours after a cyclist died at the scene of a collision with a car in Wednesfield on Saturday afternoon despite attempts by medics to save him.
The cyclist, who has not been named, was involved in the accident at the junction of March End Road and Neachells Lane, at 12.45pm.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived on scene they found a car and cyclist had been in collision.
“The cyclist, a man, was lying in the road. Crews immediately assessed the man, who had suffered a head injury, and commenced emergency treatment.
“The man was conveyed to New Cross Hospital on blue lights.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews and hospital medics, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
