But his elderly mother Emily Watkinson, 74, from Preston, said the senseless death had “broken her heart”.
Mr Elford’s wife, Claire, and daughters Charlotte, aged three, and ten-week-old baby Olivia are currently staying with relatives. The widow has also been too upset to talk.
Meanwhile, US police are still to make an arrest over the hit-and-run or name any suspects, but details about what happened are slowly emerging.
Witnesses are said to have called police minutes before the crash to report that the Porsche GT was racing another light-coloured sports car.
The playboy heir has told US reporters that he was not behind the wheel and has referred all inquiries to his lawyer, Keith Seltzer, who has also refused to comment.
LeVin is still on probation after he was chased by Chicago police in July 2006. The 34-year-old, who lives in the upmarket Hoffman Estates area of Illinois, led them on a high-speed chase in a Porsche Targa.
