Hoax caller "ashamed" after telling Midland dad his son had died

CRUEL hoax caller Aaron Davie, who rang a Midland dad and told him his teenage son had been killed, today said: “I will always regret that moment.”
Trainee accountant Davie, of Redditch, admitted he was “ashamed, embarrassed and shocked” by what he did after a drinking session.
Davie, 29, was said to be suicidal by his mother, Tina, who was by his side as he spoke of his remorse.
He said he could not apologise in person to his victim, but wanted him to know he was sorry.
Davie, of Grendon Close, Redditch, spoke out after pleading guilty to sending a false message by public electronic communication network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety when he appeared before Birmingham Magistrates last week.
He will discover his fate when he returns to court for sentencing next month.
The 50-year-old dad who took the call said: “It chilled me. I nearly sank to the floor.
Speaking after the hearing he added: “It was the worst 40 minutes of my life. I don’t know how I functioned.”
Aston Villa fan Davie today revealed that he had kept his actions concealed from his family and girlfriend until his court appearance.
He said he was “too ashamed” to reveal how he had first lent his phone to the teenager who had come up to him at Aston train station and asked to borrow it to ring his dad.
Moments later Davie redialled the number and told the boy’s father his son had “just been killed”.
It happened as he had been on his way home after drinking heavily and watching his team beat Bolton 4-2 on December 13.
