Lorry driver held over Coleshill stabbing

POLICE were today continuing to question a trucker after a man was stabbed to death during a suspected lorry hijack in the Midlands.

The 41-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of murder after the incident yesterday in which the 36-year-old victim died and two others, including a 15-year-old teenager, were injured.

The arrested man, who is believed to be foreign, called Warwickshire Police at 6.20am claiming he was attacked during an attempted robbery on his curtain-sided lorry in Coleshill and had used a knife to defend himself.

Five minutes later a call was made to the ambulance service from junction seven of the northbound M6 at Great Barr, about ten miles away, reporting three people with stab wounds racing to hospital.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said today: “The investigation is continuing. A man is being questioned.”

The exit slip road at junction seven was closed immediately after the incident for a detailed examination of the scene by officers.

Anyone with any information should call the Major Investigation Unit at Warwickshire Police on 01926 415 000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
