Supremes star Mary Wilson opens Birmingham exhibition
The display coincides with the 50th anniversary of the ground breaking Detriot-based record company Motown Records, to which The Supremes were signed throughout their glittering 18-year run.
Tom Grosvenor, from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, said: “The dresses are absolutely timeless pieces, they are amazingly colourful.
“Of course when people first saw them on TV it was in black and white so people can now see them in full technicolour detail with the individual sequins, thousands of sequins all hand-sewn.”
In recognition of some of the musical acts influenced by The Supremes, costumes worn on stage by the likes of Destiny’s Child and Mary J Blige will also grace the exhibition which runs until June 7.
