Les Ross retires from Birmingham's airwaves

RADIO star Les Ross will hang up his headphones at BBC WM next month – in a move which may end one of the most glittering careers in local radio.
A triple Sony Award winner and recipient of the MBE, Les was inducted into the Radio Academy’s Hall of Fame in December 2004.
The honour elevated him to an industry status alongside Tony Hancock, Richard Dimbleby, John Peel, The Goons and Alistair Cooke.
But today, he said: “I’ve said it before and you never say never but I’m trying hard to retire!
“I just fancied doing something at weekends and that opportunity didn’t exist at WM any more.
“If I’m being perfectly honest, I don’t think afternoons really suit me... after all those years on breakfasts, broadcasting at that time has never inspired me as much.
