Celebrities follow in Birmingham fire fighters' footsteps with mountain challenge

“That really pushed us to our limit,” said 26-year-old Lee from Dudley.

“It was the hardest thing we’ve ever done but the important thing is that we made it to the summit.

“The altitude was really difficult because that’s something you can’t train for over here.

“The last day I really suffered and felt ill.

“We both came down with mountain sickness and it was difficult to walk because of the fatigue.”

Fuelled only by small rice and potato-based dishes and missing their girlfriends back home, they managed to conquer the 5,891m peak and simultaneously raise about £2,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity, which cares for more than 13,000 injured firemen and their families nationwide.

And despite the physical demands imparted in the epic climb Martin, 33, from Sutton Coldfield, and Lee are not ruling out a similar challenge in future.

Lee said: “Just the achievement, no matter how ill we were feeling, made it a great time and something we will never forget.

“We’d quite like to do something like that again for the charity.

“We know a couple of guys who have been supported by it. You never know when you might benefit from it yourself.”
