MYSTERY today surrounded the suspension of a headteacher who has previously been praised for her work at a secondary school which is set for multi-million-pound redevelopment.
Debbie Hunton, head of The Streetly School, in Queslett Road East, Sutton Coldfield, has been suspended from her post and the parents of its pupils were informed on Friday.
The letter, from chairman of governors John Dadd, said: “The governors of the school have taken the decision to suspend the headteacher, Mrs Hunton, pending a full investigation, in line with standard procedures.
“The suspension is a neutral act and the investigation will be carried out as quickly as possible.
“The governors have the utmost confidence in the leadership team at The Streetly School,” it added.
A teacher at the school, who asked not to be named, said staff had been surprised at the action and the suspension was unexpected, but would not comment further.
Clare Lunn, spokeswoman for Serco, the company that looks after education services in the Walsall authority, said an investigation would be carried out as soon as possible.
