“This is a substantial seizure of counterfeit discs which would have been sold in the Birmingham area and the potential gain on the sale of these discs would be over £100,000,” he said.
Coun Neil Eustace, chairman of Birmingham City Council’s Public Protection Committee, applauded the teamwork between trading standards, police and FACT.
“This seizure is just the latest in a series of investigations that illustrate the scale of this kind of problem,” he said.
“Pirate DVDs undermine and jeopardise not only future entertainment production but also the livelihood of retailers who are already suffering due to the current economic crisis. “
Officers carrying out undercover surveillance operations in the run-up to the raid reported seeing many people visiting the flat and leaving with collections of DVDs that they would later sell on the city’s streets.
No one was in the flat at the time of the raid and no one has yet been arrested.
