Perry Barr firm Savekers goes into administration

By Jon Griffin

A 106-YEAR-OLD Birmingham company which German bombs failed to destroy during the Second World War has collapsed with the loss of dozens of jobs.

Perry Barr-based Savekers, which makes architectural metalwork and shopfittings, went into administration despite receiving financial help from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands before Christmas.

A total of 34 workers from a workforce of 60 have been made redundant but administrator Begbies Traynor hopes to stave off closure by finding a buyer.

During the war, the family company produced components for Spitfire fighters and Lancaster bombers, as well as parts for Sten guns.
