THEY are the unsung heroes who help make Birmingham’s biggest nights out go with a real swing.
And now some of the army of workers based on the city’s most famous strip of bars, clubs and restaurants have enjoyed their own moment in the spotlight at the Best of Broad Street Awards.
The event, now in its fourth year, rewards the faces behind the bars and restaurants.
City VIPs including boxing legend “Big” Joe Egan, councillors and corporate bosses were on hand to present awards at the ceremony, held at the International Convention Centre.
First award of the night went to 21-year-old Richard Gregory, from Walkabout. He picked up the gong for Best Bar Person and the venue also picked up the prize for Best Managed House.
Best Waitress was won by Elizabeth Driscoll, from the Living Room. She couldn’t attend the event but beat off competition from Laura Leighton, from the recently-opened O Bar.
Top man in the Best Door Supervisor category was Hopeton Harmitt from the Jurys Inn, who picked up his award from Joe Egan. And top dog in the Best Police Officer category was won by Abdul Rohoman.
