BIRMINGHAM workers put smiles on the faces of three charities during the current tough economic times.
Local radio station Aston FM, together with Pertemps People Development Group, have given £400 each to three charities.
The radio station launched an appeal just before Christmas asking organisations to ring in and make a pitch for the cash, which was collected by employees as part of their Give As You Earn Scheme.
Representatives from the 89.1 FM radio station and Edgbaston-based PPDG then selected Mencap Sport, Lyndon Methodist Nursery in Solihull and Newtown Amateur Boxing Club, to share the total of £1,200.
Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Chauhdry Abdul Rashid, together with Aston FM DJ Gary James, met the groups at Birmingham Council House to hand over cheques.
Breakfast show DJ Gary said: “This is our niche, supporting events in local communities. We are a non-profit organisation and by linking up with PPDG, we have the opportunity for groups to come onto the air.”
