Aston mum faces anxious wait after son picks up syringe in playground

Earlier this week, she received a letter from the school telling her Ramone had been placed in detention, but she accused the school of “failing to accept responsibility” for what had happened.
“In the note it said he and the other children were given a detention for picking an object up and playing with it. It doesn’t make sense to punish a child for something they don’t know is wrong and it seems like the school is trying to pass the blame on to the children.”
The 41-year-old said the school should be carrying out a risk assessment and educating pupils on the dangers of syringes.
Mrs Fahy refused to comment but a Birmingham City Council spokesman said: “There was an incident at the school last week in which a syringe that had been thrown into the school grounds was found by pupils. There was no needle attached and it was immediately dealt with by staff.
“Police officers will visit the school to talk to pupils about the dangers of discarded syringes.”
