Birmingham film buff has cinema in his shed

Don Parr

AN 81-year-old Birmingham film buff’s love of the cinema has led him up the garden path - to build a 1930s style cinema in his garden shed.

Retired cinema manager and war-time projectionist Don Parr kitted out the shed with flock wallpaper, aisle lights, curtains and traditional tip-up seats for 14 people.

He first opened it 1987, but has now upgraded it with surround sound and a Blu-Ray player.

It took Don and two friends 14 months to build the mini picture house, in the Castle Bromwich back garden, which he now uses to host classic films for his friends.

Despite having a library of 70 classic movies on 16mm film, he has now upgraded to Blu-Ray and surround sound.

The 81-year-old wanted to pay tribute to the Erdington picture house he worked in as a projectionist as a youngster.
