Witnesses face arrest after Walsall crash

TWO witnesses are facing arrest after failing to attend an inquest into the death of a man who died in a Walsall motorcycle crash.

Coroner Robin Balmain brought an inquest to an abrupt halt yesterday because Daniel Scrivens and Anthony Benton did not turn up. Mr Balmain issued a warrant for the pair’s arrest so they could give evidence in the case of 19-year-old Ian Box, of Harrison Street, Bloxwich, who died when his machine hit a wall last May.

The case was adjourned, as there were conflicting accounts of what had happened to Mr Box, who died of multiple injuries.

Desmond Bendall, of Charles Crescent, Pelsall, said he was driving his silver Peugeot in Harrison Street towards Field Road when Mr Box’s motorbike came round a corner towards him in the wrong lane with a look of “sheer agony” on his face. The dead man’s brother, Wayne Box, claimed he was not riding on the wrong side of the road.
