Soldier Mark Quinsey murder: Fellow Real IRA victim laid to rest
More than 100 mourners gathered at the Guards Chapel on Birdcage Walk in Central London yesterday for Sapper Azimkar’s funeral.
Northern Ireland chief constable Sir Hugh Orde, Northern Ireland Victims Commissioner Mike Nesbit and Jaime Quinsey, the sister of Sapper Quinsey, were among the congregation.
The hearse carrying Sapper Azimkar’s coffin arrived at the chapel covered in floral tributes with arrangements in the shape of footballs to reflect his love of the game.
His family, including mother Geraldine - whose family is originally from Ireland – and father Mehmet – originally from Cyprus – watched in silence as six members of the 38 Engineer Regiment shouldered the Union Flag-draped coffin.
Police have arrested four men over the soldiers’ murders, including high-profile republican Colin Duffy and Declan McGlinchey, son of notorious republican leader Dominic McGlinchey.
