Fordrough pub murder: CCTV footage could be vital

“They might not want to get involved or they might think that what they know is insignificant but what I would say to them is to let us be the judge of that.

“Anybody who saw what happened outside that pub has got both a public duty and a loyalty to Tracy and his family.

“He had two very young children and was devoted to his wife Sharon, who was his childhood sweetheart.”

Tracy is believed to have hit his head after being knocked to the ground by a single blow.

He was given first aid at the scene by a police officer and members of the public before being taken to hospital, where he died the following morning. A statement released by his family yesterday read: “Tracy McConnell was a loving family man who adored his two children and his life long partner Sharon. Tracy was a skilled carpenter who was a very popular and generous man. He came from a close family and he will be sadly missed.”

Anybody with information is asked to call CID at Bournville Lane on 0845 113 5000.
