TEACHERS and parents are warned to look out for the following signs of gang membership:

n Graffiti in and around school, particularly displaying postcodes

n Gang symbols and names on notebooks, bags or clothes

n Clothing – some colours relate to certain gangs including bandanas, or one coloured sock

n Certain tattoos may indicate gang involvement

BEHAVIOUR

n A rise in truancy

n Abrupt changes in friends

n Bullying, including pressure to join a gang

n Increased numbers of social groups with ‘gang names’

n Secretive behaviour

n Possessing relatively large sums of money

n Visiting gang groups on the internet through social network sites eg: MySpace, Facebook
