Fordrough pub murder: Four arrested

“We are still anxious for people to come forward,” he said.

“Many people present that night have still not come forward and are yet to be identified. It is taking time to find them all but it is achievable. It is far better if people come forward themselves.”

Mr Mayhew said the tendency was for people to stay silent in the misguided belief that others had spoken with police.

He added: “That isn’t always the case. If people were in the pub last Friday night they should speak with us.”

Police are also trawling CCTV tapes taken from the pub, which has been closed indefinitely pending a review by licensing chiefs.

Meanwhile, Mr McConnell’s family have laid moving tributes at the scene.

A message from his wife and childhood sweetheart, Sharon, read: “Tracy, my darling husband. I love you with all my heart and always will. Don’t know how I will cope without you, but I will find a way as you gave me two beautiful daughters.

“You will live on in both of them. Yours forever.”

A wreath spelling out the word Daddy was among the tributes. His young daughters Shannon and Amelia left simple messages saying “all my love” and “miss you daddy”.
