Stourbridge schoolteacher spared prison after pub fight

McGregor had embarked on an affair with a former barmaid at the pub and he confronted Mr Conway, who was also a regular at the tavern, because he believed he had been looking at his girlfriend and he flew into a jealous rage.

Andrew Wilkins, defending, said McGregor had worked as a lorry driver before retraining and qualifying as a schoolteacher so he could “dedicate himself to the betterment of others.”

But his career was now in ruins because after his arrest for the latest incident of violence he had been suspended and then dismissed just two weeks later.

“There is no realistic prospect of him ever working as a teacher again,” said Mr Wilkins.

“His hopes and aspirations have been dashed and he has got to begin a new chapter in his life.”

McGregor, who was hugged by friends after the case was given a 36-week prison sentence suspended for two years, placed under supervision for two years and was also told he must attend an anger management course.
