Ram-raiders fail in cashpoint robbery at Nationwide in Small Heath
“It is thought the offenders were trying to smash their way into the ATM machine located in the wall of the premises, but it is believed they left empty-handed.”
It was the second time ram-raiders had smashed into a cashpoint machine in Birmingham in recent days.
In the early hours of last Thursday, heavy-handed thieves used a JCB digger or a large truck to break into a cash machine outside McDonald’s, in School Road, Yardley.
The thieves left the shattered remains of the machine on the ground after stripping it of cash.
Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.
The same branch of Nationwide was targeted in an armed raid in October last year. The bungling raider was caught with a toy gun after quick-thinking staff locked the doors and trapped him inside.
Anyone who witnessed the latest ram raid or who has information should call police at Stechford on 0845 113 5000.
