Lorry kills driver in broken down car on M6

The spokesman added: “The southbound carriageway of the motorway remains closed while inquiries are made at the scene by specialist officers from the Central Motorway Police Group and Staffordshire Police.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: “On arrival, crews found a car had been on fire. The person from the car had suffered fatal injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The lorry driver and his female passenger were uninjured, the spokesman added.

The Highways Agency warned motorists they faced delays of up to one hour as the cause of the collision was investigated and the damaged vehicles recovered from the carriageway.

Traffic stretched back to junction 13, south of Stafford, where traffic was being diverted. The motorway was expected to be closed for much of the morning.

Tributes to the Birmingham father who died in Bristol Road South, Rednal included two touching messages from his children.

One read: “To Daddy, I’ll always love and fic of you, lots of love Rhys.”

A message from his daughter read: “To Daddy, I’ll always love you and I’ll always look up to you and respect you, please remember that. I’ll always love you, from your daughter Sophia.”

The motorcyclist who was killed in Tamworth was involved in an accident in Glascote Road, at 4.10pm yesterday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man was confirmed dead at the scene.

In a further accident, a motorcyclist in his 40s suffered serious leg, pelvic and chest injuries, after colliding with a car in Market Street, Kingswinford, yesterday.
