Virgin Trains service cancelled after rail boss attacked by passenger

A TRAIN service between Birmingham and London had to be cancelled this morning after the service manager was attacked by a passenger.

Travellers on today’s 8.50am service from the city’s New Street station to London Euston had to leave the train following the incident.

British Transport Police officers were called and arrested a Hockley man who was later being questioned.

A police spokesman said: “Officers have arrested a 41-year-old man after a train manager was assaulted at Birmingham New Street railway station this morning.”

A Virgin Trains spokesman said passengers faced only a short delay to their journeys.

“There would have been an impact on that service as the manager was quite shaken.”
