Handsworth shooting: Police 'open minded' over motive

A MAN gunned down in a Birmingham street was named today as Dominique Grant.

The 20-year-old former Perry Beeches secondary school pupil was found lying under a car in Uplands Road, Handsworth, with gunshot wound to the chest on Sunday afternoon.

Passers-by first thought he was carrying out repairs to the vehicle but raised the alarm after discovering he had been shot.

More than 60 murder squad detectives were today hunting his killer.

Mr Grant’s car was found parked nearby, but murder squad detectives are still trying to determine why he was in Uplands Road.

Police said they were keeping an “open mind” over a motive for the killing but were investigating all possibilities, including whether it was gang-related or the result of some other fall-out.

It is the first fatal shooting in Birmingham for eight months.
