St George's Day event in Birmingham attracts thousands
The concert was organised by the Birmingham St George’s Day Association and was held to raise money for the charity Cure Leukaemia.
Coun Ray Hassall, Birmingham council’s culture chief, said: “This weekend was packed full of free entertainment for everyone to come together and enjoy.
“The knights of middle England delighted packed crowds with their spectacular sword-fighting demonstrations. This is one of many of the council programmes of community events.”
In Stratford, another English landmark date was celebrated – the 445th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birth.
Thousands attended in the sunshine on Saturday, with Morris dancers entertaining the throngs.
Actor Donald Sinden led a procession which included representatives from dozens of community groups and schools as it wound through the town.
