Review: South Pacific, Solihull Operatic Society, Solihull Library Theatre

A SPIRITED company copes well, both with the humour and the emotions that ride high in the show.

The humour got an almost certainly unintentional bonus when one of the US servicemen, for no reason, marched across the stage from one side to the other, swinging his left and right arms in time with his left and right feet respectively and looking distinctly odd.

There are strong performances throughout, with Anna Hankey (Nellie), Stephen Bingham (Emile), Karl Freczek (Lt Cable) and Sue Cooper (Bloody Mary) outstanding in Peter Haden’s slick production.

Strong support is led by Jason Bishop (Luther Billis), Keith Parry (Stewpot) and Ian Stocker (Captain Brackett). Both the choruses are in impressive voice and there are lively and confident dance routines. The show runs until Saturday.
