Aston Villa fan murder trial: Man found guilty

Lee Mockble

A MAN was this afternoon jailed for life for murdering Aston Villa fan Christopher Priest by mowing him down in his car.

Lee Mockble, aged 21, was found guilty of murdering 26-year-old Mr Priest after last season’s derby clash with Birmingham City at Villa Park.

A jury of eight men and four women returned the verdict at Wolverhampton Crown Court following a two week trial.

Mockble, of Robin Hood Lane, Hall Green, shook his head at the verdict before putting his head in his hands.

He had denied murder.

Judge John Warner jailed him for life and told him he would serve a minimum of 12 years.

He said: “These events started with a piece of mindless violence directed in the direction of the car for no other reason than it was believed to contain opposing supporters.

“It ended with Mr Priest being mown down in the road and losing him his life. It has been said in court that you used your car as a weapon. It was a lethal weapon used by you in a dreadful act of revenge.

“All you had to do was carry on driving away.

“You simply could not let it go. You had to go and get your own back.
