Family of Birmingham tot Cerys Edwards angry over trust fund delay

“I want to do more than simply say sorry which is why I’ve been working hard on the imminent launch of a Trust Fund to help Cerys and other children in similar circumstances.
“We have a number of fund-raising events planned and I’m also hoping to raise awareness among teenagers of the damage that can be caused by dangerous driving.
“This way, I hope I can make a positive difference, no matter how small, in the lives of Cerys, her family and others.”
Cerys is currently living in a rented house in Sutton with a team of nursing staff providing round-the-clock care. Her parents live nearby.
But the family is finally set to live under the same roof again in a specially-adapted new home, partially paid for by Boparan’s family.
Cerys underwent a week of tests late last year, which left doctors “over the moon” with her progress.
Her family said she had made significant breakthroughs, including eating and drinking for the first time without tubes, standing without supports and breathing on her own for more than two minutes.
She underwent an operation to save her sight in March and will return to a specialist unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire, for a week of treatment in June.
The family is collecting names on a petition demanding tougher sentences for dangerous drivers who cause catastrophic injuries.
