Word's out in Centenary Square that reading is great fun

THE beauty of books and the wonder of words were the messages conveyed at a literary celebration in Birmingham city centre.
The Big Book Bash was being held yesterday and today in Centenary Square.
Aimed at turning youngsters onto reading, a range of free events were being laid on featuring much-loved children’s characters including Elmer the Elephant, Maisy Mouse and Horrid Henry.
The Bash was part of the city’s Young Readers 2009 festival, including a week of events to tie in with the half-term break. A total of 130 events are being held as part of the festival, which runs until Saturday.
