Midlands actress Sian Reeves in comeback after accident

Sian Reeves

A MIDLAND actress has spoken about a horrific backstage accident when she fell through an open trapdoor, shattering her ribcage and puncturing a lung.

Cutting It star Sian Reeves feared she would never work again and spent ten months unable to move and in “terrible pain”.

She is still suffering, but has recovered enough to make her TV comeback – an event she once believed would never happen.

Sian, best known for the hairdressing drama Cutting It, takes a starring role in a major new BBC1 drama, Hope Springs.

Sian, who was born in West Bromwich and grew up in Brewood, Staffordshire, shudders as she remembers the moment her life changed forever.

It was two years ago, while she was rehearsing the play Vernon God Little at London’s Young Vic.

“Someone had left a trapdoor open backstage. I fell down it, on to a steel ladder, and punctured my lung and crushed the whole of my upper rib cage. The pain was incredible.

“I could have been worse – I could have been paralysed – but I’ve been flat on my back for the best part of a year. It’s been so awful, it was like my whole life just stood still.

“Living with pain for every minute of the day and not sleeping, I turned into this intolerable cow.

“Taking strong painkillers for so long also gave me a really bad stomach disorder.
