ARE you aged 16 to 25 and always fancied working in radio, or intrigued and want to see how it’s done?
If you want be a presenter, a newshound or produce and write shows, jingles or adverts – the list is endless – then make 2009 the year you try it all, for free, in top level studios at Kicfm in Wolverhampton.
Kicfm is celebrating ten successful years of being a youth-based radio station serving the Black Country. Based at Wolverhampton University, in Compton, in a 40-foot trailer, Kicfm hosts two high-quality studios manned by experienced radio professionals. More than 150 Kicfm volunteers have gone on to secure jobs in the media.
Try a taster session and, if you like it, complete one of their 50-hour training programmes on all aspects of radio.
It’s free, all they ask is for your time, and in return you learn how to write, produce and broadcast your own show – about whatever you want.
This year the station has teamed up with V awards, a national charity that records, recognises and rewards the positive impact young people can have by volunteering in their community. Plus, after 50 hours of volunteering, youngsters will receive a V50 certificate – a credible award to show future employers.
Director of Kicfm and founder Rob Smith, formerly of BBC WM, said: “Kicfm was created 10 years ago to give the new generation a voice. It’s run by young people for young people. We welcome any volunteers from ages of 16 to 25 to come in and have a taster session, in our studios, totally for free and supported by our experienced staff.”
He added: “Whether it’s sports presenting or a comedy sketch show, a music show or current affairs, we are here to help, guide and advise.”
