Matthew Boulton and James Watt on new £50 note

LEGENDARY Birmingham industrialists Matthew Boulton and James Watt will feature on new versions of the £50 note.

The 18th century business partnership, who led the industrial revolution, will be depicted on the Bank of England’s notes from 2011.

Bank governor, Mervyn King, visiting Birmingham last night, said: “So many of the advantages society now enjoys are due in large part to the vital role of engineering and the brilliance and foresight of people such as Boulton and Watt.”
