Three Solihull parents fined after children play truant from school
THREE Solihull parents have clocked up nearly £1,000 worth of fines between them for failing to ensure their children attended school.
One mother was found guilty at Solihull Magistrates’ Court after her 15-year-old daughter attended just nine out of a possible 120 school sessions between December 1 last year and March 20 this year, with only eight of the 111 absences being authorised.
The woman was fined £525 and ordered to pay costs of £110.
In a second case, a mother and father were each fined £200 after being found guilty at Solihull Magistrates’ Court for failing to ensure their 14-year-old daughter attended school.
The youngster attended 66 out of a possible 124 sessions over the same period. The couple was also ordered to pay costs of £152 each.
