Concrete slab thrown at train driver's cab in Stourbridge

Police want to speak to anyone who has any information after a train driver was injured when a concrete slab was thrown at his cab.

The attack happened as the London Midland service passed through Lye, near Stourbridge, from Kidderminster to a depot in Birmingham. Four youths were on a footbridge overlooking the track before one launched the 1ftx2ft wide block at the cab’s windows at 7.35pm on Monday. It shattered the windscreen leaving the 37-year-old driver from Tamworth with cuts to his arm.

Two people were walking their dogs in the area at the time and a police spokesman said: “This is a very serious incident but the consequences could have been far worse. We still believe that there are other people who have information that have not yet come forward and I would urge them to contact us.”

Anyone with information should telephone British Transport Police free on 0800 40 50 40.
