Singer Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf) at Muslim convention in Birmingham

SINGING star Cat Stevens came to Birmingham at the weekend to take part in talks on the future of Muslims in Britain.

The singer, now known as Yusuf Islam, was a guest speaker at The Muslim Council of Britain’s annual convention in Small Heath on Saturday.

Activists, scholars and entrepreneurs gathered at the Crystal Plaza to address issues facing Muslims in the UK.

As well as the singer, who converted to Islam at the height of his fame in 1977 and adopted the Muslim name Yusuf Islam, speakers included scientist Salim al-Hassani and National Union of Students president Wes Streeting.
