Lucky escape after Sparkhill family sleep through smoke alarm

A FAMILY of eight in Birmingham had a narrow escape when they slept through their smoke alarm going off today.

None of the two adults and six children heard the alarm – it was neighbours who dialled 999.

It took firefighters several minutes knocking at the door to rouse the family in their house in Walford Road, Sparkhill, at 6am. They led the family to safety and found a fire in the kitchen caused by food left on the stove overnight.
