Chateau Impney Hotel in Droitwich Spa up for sale
One of the Midland’s most beautiful hotels is being sold at a cut price because its owner does not have an heir willing to run the business.
Grade II Listed Chateau Impney Hotel, on the outskirts of Droitwich Spa, in Worcestershire, was originally put on sale for £25 million two years ago.
But just four days before a prospective buyer was about to purchase the property, the bank pulled the plug on a loan and the deal fell through.
Now the hotel, which is set in a glorious 144 acres and boasts 124 bedrooms and apartments, is being advertised for £17.5 million in an attempt to attract a quick sale.
Its 71-year-old owner, Steven Raguz, who bought the property 35 years ago after emigrating to the UK from Yugoslavia, can no longer run the business due to a back injury which he suffered 15 years ago.
Surgeons have told him that if he does not have an operation on his vertebrae soon he may face spending the rest of his life in his wheelchair.
Mr Raguz, who studied at Birmingham’s Hotel School from 1957 to 1958, said: “It is an extremely sad day for myself and my staff.
“Of course I did not want to sell the property but it has come to the time of my life now where I need to pass it on to somebody else.
“My daughter, Tania, is not interested in taking over so there is no option left for me but to sell.
