Man denies murder of missing teen

A man has gone on trial accused of murdering a teenager who disappeared 18 years ago.

Peter Tobin, 62, who comes from Johnstone, Renfrewshire, denies killing 18-year-old Dinah McNicol, of Tillingham, Essex.

His trial, at Chelmsford Crown Court, is expected to last for at least two weeks.

Miss McNicol vanished after attending a music festival in Liphook, Hampshire, in 1991.

Her remains were found in Margate, Kent, in November 2007 after detectives relaunched investigations into her disappearance.

Jurors were told Tobin was alleged to have murdered Miss McNicol between August 1991 and January 1992.

Prosecutors are expected to begin outlining evidence later.
