Michael Jackson offered me £500,000 for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car
THE Midland owner of the world’s most famous movie car today recalled how Michael Jackson offered him £500,000 after falling in love with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Pierre Picton was driving the original Chitty in a charity rally in 1990 when it was spotted by the tragic music legend, who wanted the car for his Neverland ranch.
Representatives of the pop star approached Mr Picton with the big-money bid.
But the now 75-year-old turned down the offer, saying no amount of money could tempt him to sell the car he drove in the movie and has owned since 1972.
Pierre, from Stratford-upon-Avon, said: “I was driving in the rally and that must have triggered something.
“Somebody in his organisation approached me. The offer came as a total surprise. I had no idea he wanted the car until then.”
Pierre, who was reminded of the offer after hearing of Jackson’s death last week, said he thought about it for two days, even though he knew he didn’t want to sell the car.
