Police hope to speak to Handsworth shooting victims

POLICE were today hoping to speak to the victims of a double shooting on a quiet Birmingham street.

The two men were wounded when the gunman opened fire as a group of people stood at the junction of Church Vale and Robert Road, Handsworth, shortly after 8pm on Friday.

Detectives said there appeared to be no warning from the gunman and nothing happened in the moments before to spark the incident.

A 23-year-old man suffered several gunshot wounds to the body. The other victim, aged 33, received a single gunshot wound to his leg, although the injuries were not life-threatening.

Det Insp Russ Evans, from Thornhill Road CID, said: “At the moment we don’t have a motive for this incident.

“There were a number of people in the street when the gunman appeared and discharged the weapon. We are not entirely sure who they were meant for.”
