A TEENAGE robber idolised by other young louts for his criminal exploits was today behind bars – after leaving his DNA at the scene of a crime.
Police said young thugs had looked on Mohammed Sarfraz as a “hero” for his robbery exploits.
But the 18-year-old, who was branded “dangerous” by a judge, has now been jailed for seven-and-a-half years.
Sarfraz and two other masked thugs burst in to the Small Heath home of a foreign worker armed with metal bars in January, Birmingham Crown Court heard. Despite suffering a broken arm in the incident, the terrified Lithuanian man fought back and managed to rip Sarfraz’s balaclava from his head before he fled.
Forensic tests on the mask later found the 18-year-old’s genetic fingerprint and he was arrested.
Sarfraz, from Small Heath, was jailed after pleaded guilty to robbery.
PC Warren Moore, who led the investigation, said: “We are really pleased with the sentence and it sends out a strong message that these crimes will not be tolerated.
“The judge also deemed Sarfraz a dangerous individual to protect the public which means he will have to prove to the parole board his is no longer a threat to the public before he is let out.”
He added: “A lot of other tearaways in the area used to look up to him as a hero for going around robbing people - but that gloss has gone now.
