Search for a Bard of the Bar
Jul 13 2009 by Mike Bradley, Birmingham Mail
A LYRICAL landlord in the Black Country is looking for local poets to become the Bard of the Bar.
The search for the Pub Poet is being launched to coincide with a “golden ale” festival being held in The Swallows Nest, on Bromsgrove Road, Romsley, Halesowen, and eight other Vintage Inns in the region, throughout July and August.
The regional winner will have their verse judged against winners from 22 other Vintage Inns collections and a national winner will then be chosen.
The national winner will land a VIP weekend for four in London, including tickets for Kew Gardens.
Poems must contain a reference to Birmingham and the Black Country and one of the six beers included in the real ale festival. Entries must be sent by email to pubpoet@gmail.com and entrants should put The Swallows Nest in the subject line of their email and include their name and telephone number in the email itself. The deadline is July 31.
