Boy dies after collapsing on trampoline at West Heath home
A THREE-year-old boy has died after collapsing while he bounced on a trampoline at his family home in Birmingham.
The toddler’s mother frantically called 999 after the child stopped breathing in the garden at their home in West Heath.
Paramedics said the child, who has not yet been named, was suffering from cardiac arrest when they arrived at the house.
They battled in vain to revive him. He was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he was found to be dead on arrival. The tragedy happened on Monday morning.
Detectives are investigating and have said there is no indication that the youngster had fallen and banged his head.
A post-mortem has been carried out but proved inconclusive and more tests will now take place in order to confirm the cause of death.
Police said today that the boy’s parents were “absolutely devastated”.
A West Midlands Police force spokesman said: “Police were called to an address in West Heath at 11am on Monday, where a three-year-old boy was found.
“He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“A post-mortem examination has taken place but further tests are needed to establish the cause of death.”
The spokesman said the death was being treated as unexplained.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We got a call at 10.55am on Monday.
“We sent a rapid response vehicle and an incident support officer to reports of a young boy who had gone in to cardiac arrest.
“Crews carried out resuscitation attempts before the boy was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he was confirmed dead,” he added.
