AN INVESTIGATION into the tragic death of a toddler who collapsed while bouncing on a trampoline at his family home in Birmingham was continuing today.
The three-year-old’s mother frantically called 999 after the child stopped breathing in the garden at their home in West Heath on Monday. Paramedics said the child, who has not yet been named, was suffering from cardiac arrest when they arrived at the house in Staple Lodge Road.
They battled in vain to revive him. He was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he was found to be dead on arrival.
As floral tributes were left outside the house, neighbours said the family’s young children were always playing on the trampoline which appeared about six weeks ago.
Detectives said there was no indication the youngster had fallen and banged his head. A post-mortem proved inconclusive and more tests have been ordered. West Midlands Police are treating the death as unexplained.
